Your new arrival
- Please give your new family member time to settle in, and this could take days or even weeks. Please give your new family member time to adjust and try not to overload them with attention no matter how difficult. Give them some space and a place to call their own where they can relax in peace.
- Do not expect the perfect pet. Most of our older rescues have experienced some sort of trauma in their lives.
- We cat test and child test our dogs where possible, and would not recommend them if we thought they were not suitable. We always try to match the dog with the family,
- We bloodtest our dogs for all of the mediterranean diseases including Brucellosis
- After a long van journey from Spain, your pet can suffer from a delayed jet lag, tiredness and depression. They may also have upset tums and so it is advisable to give them only a very small meal when they arrive.
- Some of our rescues may not be used to living indoors, so yes you may get the odd accident…please be patient as they will learn, and we will provide advice and support
- Please do not let them off the lead whilst out walking, until you are confident they will come back when called. Use a harness rather than a collar or both to prevent escape if startled with a double ended lead even in the garden
- It is the new owners responsibility to register the Micro chip with their vet, and give current address If you move remember to update the details. We will change the microchips into the owners new details
- Please keep in contact with us. We are always here to help with any queries and to offer support.
- Remember your contract. If it all goes sadly wrong please let us know first, as there is something we may be able to help with.
- A street dog will possibly always on the look out for food, including fruit, insects and rubbish. This is habit as that is how they survived on the streets. Please watch out for them eating anything they shouldn’t. Keep any potential dangers out of reach
- You may come home to the bin tipped over the floor, or your kitchen work tops have been raided. We recommend keeping them in one room to start.
- Pet insurance is a must. Shop around to get the best deal – we recommend lifetime cover. All our animals under the age of 8 come with 4 weeks free insurance with Petplan, and this can be changed to full cover once the 4 weeks is up. For every policy taken out, Paws for the Cause Rescue receives a small donation
- We love photos and updates! We love to see our rescues in their loving new homes.
- Enjoy every moment with your new pet.
